Ferns from Spores

Update as of 7 July 2008

Upon inspection of my nursery on Sunday, I found that some of the covers from the trays have shifted, and that the trays suffered some dehydration.  Now this is not good for any small, ambitious fern's future.  I corrected the situation, but must admit that I am somewhat pessimistic about the future of these little ones.  Time will tell.

Above is a close up of the (somewhat drier than ideal) spores germinating in the tray   The above picture is of the one tray containing some kind of fern tree spores, not sure, although I am keeping record of the tray numbers and starting dates.

The picture on the left is of hundreds of Holly Ferns in the tray, now somewhat later (about 6 months) and I should already have transplanted them.  They could most probably have been larger by now, were they transplanted in a timely manner.
