Clivia
PRETORIA - 7 September 2008
I must admit that I have not given this "common" bush lily (Afr: Bos lelie) much thought in the past. Even though it is native to South Africa, I did not think that it would have captured the imagination of the world in the way it did.
Growers and collectors are paying huge amounts of money for those plants with a specific colour, or specific flower shapes.
Yes, I have grown these from seeds, and successfully so, even though I did not wash the seeds, or sterilised the growing medium, or adhered to the correct temperatures, or the right depth of the seed. I still had a 80% success rate. My only reason for growing these was to "get more plants".
Now I have ordered some seeds from a reputable supplier, and I will try doing it the recommended way, and see what I can come up with.
